Alphen-- Comparable to a king, the male wolf that directs the entire pack. (Or in this case, Head Alphen, one that directs /all/ the packs.) He is higher ranked than all, including the alphena, who is only very slightly below. There is one alphen per pack. All wolves in the pack must submit to him.
Alphena-- The matriarch of the pack, the female ruler. There is only one alphena per pack. She is ranked only below alphen, and all below must submit to her.
Beta-- The second ranking. There are one male and one female beta per pack, and they must submit to the alphas. They take the alphen's place should something happen to them, and stand in for them if they are unable to perform their duties.
Hunter-- These wolves are in charge of bringing in the food for the pack. They hunt as a whole, working to bring down larger game, like a sick moose. There is one head hunter who leads the attack and directs all movement. There may be several hunters in a pack.
Warrior-- Warriors help to defend the pack in a time of war, often destined and trained as young as a pup. As with hunters, there is a lead warrior who plots the advance, issues orders, and is often the strongest. There are several warriors in a pack.
Healer-- There is not always a healer in the pack, but they're a nice addition to the pack. They deal with herbal healing, and must know which plant is which, how to use it, how to find and identify it, its uses, etc. Some call their healing "magic" and often mutter odd chants while administering, but most find this hard to believe. There is generally one, often elder healer in a pack.
Pack members-- Wolves that don't have a particular purpose in the pack, but reside in the terra. All wolves in the pack start off as packwolves, as well as young ones newly introduced to the pack, until another rank or duty has been provided for them. They must submit to all above ranks.
Pups-- The offspring of pack members, not considered part of the pack as of yet. Generally, they have the alphen's blood. If they don't, there's a good risk they'll be killed. Packwolves must ask an alpha for permission to have a litter of pups. If there are more than about four pups in a litter, the "extra" pups are usually disposed of for the simple reasoning that it's too tiring for the mother to care for them all. The number of pups in a pack is limitless.
Omega-- The lowest rank in the pack, omega is the narrow forewarning to exile. They have usually done something to infuriate the alphas to this point, and this serves as punishment. Omegas must submit to all members of the pack, or be killed or exiled. They care for the pups of the pack while the parents hunt or rest, and are not allowed to hunt for themselves. They must wait until all wolves finish with the kill before eating. There is one omega per pack.
